Office of Justice and Peace<\/h1>\n

The Office of Justice and Peace promotes Catholic social teaching\u00a0<\/a>to Catholic Charities\u2019 programs and the wider Catholic community. This office coordinates the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Parish Social Ministry, and Prison Ministry activities in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The office moderates the Archdiocesan Commission for Persons with Disabilities and responds to emerging weather crises. The office also seeks funding for Catholic Charities\u2019 poverty programs and is involved in legislative advocacy.<\/p>\n

Catholic Campaign For Human Development<\/h3>\n

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development <\/a>(CCHD) works to end poverty in the Archdiocese of New Orleans by supporting community organizations that address the root causes of poverty. The CCHD was founded in 1969 by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in response to Pope Paul VI’s call to support the “development of peoples.”<\/p>\n

CCHD celebrated its 50th anniversary on May 14-15, 2021, when Together New Orleans, one of the funded organizations, released its new video, which can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Catholic Relief Services<\/h3>\n

Catholic Relief Services<\/a> is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. The agency alleviates suffering and provides assistance to people in need in more than 100 countries, without regard to race, religion, or nationality. CRS’ relief and development work is accomplished through programs of emergency response, HIV, health, agriculture, education, microfinance, and peacebuilding.
