Originally founded in 1983, the Ciara House program provides the chronically homeless and mentally ill with safe, stable housing.<\/p>\n
The Ciara Independent Living program provides stable, safe, and stigma-free housing to the chronically homeless and mentally ill by giving them a sense of community and a path to self-sufficiency. \u00a0Residents pay a modest rent, provide their own meals, and are able to live relatively independently. Ciara Independent Living has 34 residents and their length of stay varies depending on their individual goals. Currently, the program has two locations in New Orleans and Metairie.<\/p>\n
Program participants are referred to CCANO from case managers, hospitals, the National Association for Mental Illness (NAMI), Beacon Behavioral, and Health Care for the Homeless. Ciara Independent Housing provides case management, wellness\/support groups, monthly Second Harvest Food Bank, and a community of support and care. The case managers provide help with home management, budgeting, doctor visits, employment assistance, medication management, application assistance, behavioral health services, and make home visits to ensure that each client is safe and stable.
